City of Edinburgh Council Retrofits
February 27th 2025

We have collaborated with the City of Edinburgh Council to implement advanced retrofit standards for nine pilot typologies selected from a vast portfolio of 20,000 properties. The project aimed to test advanced retrofit standards, evaluate various performance benchmarks and assess the capacity of Scotland’s construction sector for wider-scale adoption.
With tenants remaining in-situ, we successfully delivered EPC B-rated homes through a fabric-first approach, demonstrating the possibilities of achieving deep retrofits with minimal disruption.
Eoin Kavanagh, senior project architect at ab+c said “This project showcases how the City of Edinburgh Council’s ambitious targets to implement the principles of deep retrofit to their existing housing stock can be delivered at scale, paving the way for more sustainable, efficient and comfortable housing for tenants.”
The homes are now being monitored to evaluate energy use, occupant comfort, and overall performance. The data collected will support the council in assessing the feasibility of scaling these retrofit strategies across their housing portfolio, providing valuable insights into sustainable, net-zero carbon housing solutions.
We’re looking forward to seeing how the homes perform in use and how the project can be expanded in the future.
