Designing Places Student Competition 2015
March 03rd 2015
A huge thank you to all the students who took part in Saturday’s design competition. We are also very grateful to all the lecturers who continue to encourage involvement and connect their students to our work. The day was a great success. Ian Alexander (JMArchitects) and Rowena Statt (Anderson Bell Christie) did a wonderful job, as did Kristen Anderson and Stuart Watson (Scottish Government).
The winning team created a well-considered masterplan, under great time pressure, working hard together as a team. Named ‘Castle Square’ it had a strong street structure and a good balance of green spaces, new housing arrangements and community amenities such as a school. The plan looked outwards, towards the city & castle, but also created a focus on a new urban space, that would attract vibrant activity. The team also captured a good sense of scale in terms of building blocks and spaces.
