Our design guidance for Argyll and Bute Council is based on the clear communication of the key principles which underpin good design. Extensive consultation with key stakeholders (both web-based and workshops) determined the issues covered by the guidance documents. We used interviews and workshops with local people, community organisations, public agencies operating in the area and local council officers to identify “blocks” to good design, and determine recommendations for improvements to the planning system.
The guidance includes assistance and information relating to the planning process itself, together with checklists to assist designers. Councillors and key council officers were updated and informed at all key stages as the design guidance was developed and it has been adopted as supplementary planning policy.
