Edward Street

This small development of twelve houses is situated in the centre of Dunoon. Previously, the site was the location of a series of dispersed single storey modern buildings, which disrupted the vernacular pattern of Dunoon’s streets and houses. We introduced a “gatehouse” which is sympathetic to the existing Dunoon street typology at the entrance to this courtyard development. Within the courtyard we introduced houses with their own simple geometry.

The houses are designed to be sustainable. For example, locally sourced larch is used as cladding, the houses comply with Communities Scotland Housing for Varying Needs Guidelines, crushed material from demolitions were used in the new development, and all major rooms face south.

Edward Street was a partnering project with local contractor (John Brown (Strone) Ltd) for Fyne Homes, built on programme and within budget, meeting a local housing need.
