Dunscore is a new health centre which provides services for a wide geographical area. The site is on the edge of a very picturesque village and the building forms a key gateway on its approach from Dumfries.
It is contemporary in design, yet fits sympathetically into its context. Taking its cue from traditional buildings in the village, it is sited to align with the road.
It is the first building seen from the B729 so we incorporated a double height area of curtain walling that is illuminated at night as a distinctive feature.
The one-and-a-half-storey design has a partly inhabited, steep, dual-pitched roof, and the gables incorporate passive stack outlets reminiscent of traditional chimneys, while the waiting areas and consulting rooms enjoy beautiful views to the south and east.
